Copper Line Switch off is coming in 2027! is your business ready?
The Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) is being phased out in favour of digital technology. This transition is happening because the old analogue network, which relies on underground copper wires, is becoming increasingly difficult and expensive to maintain. It’s also slow and unable to cope with the increasing demands of the modern world.
By January 2027, the UK aims to have fully transitioned to digital phone lines using Internet Protocol (IP) technology through fibre optic cables. This means that traditional phone services will be replaced by Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), which offers clearer call quality and new features like anonymous caller rejection and three-way calling, as well as much faster internet speeds.
The switch-off will affect not just phone services but also other devices connected to the old network, such as alarms, CCTV systems, POS Systems using ATA technology and fax machines.
